The quintessential clapping tune I can think of is "Car Wash" by Rose
Royce. Can you think of any others from the 60s and 70s?

Don't the Dixiecups clap in "Iko-Iko"?

Steve Miller's "Take the Money and Run" has some clapping.

I'll have to think some more for others.

Umm, is "The Clapping song" by Shirley Ellis too obvious?

How about Stevie Wonder's "Fingertips" when he asks the audience to
"clap your hands, just a little bit louder"

Can't forget the Ventures "Let's Go!" which preceded the song with the
same clapping pattern by John Fogerty called "Centerfield."

Boyce and Hart's "What's She Doin' Tonight?"

Seems like the some outfit like the Jive Bunny did some medleys with a
lot of clapping...

Come on people, I'll bet there are hundreds of clapping songs.
Wasn't there a country song called "your wife gave me the clap?" Does
that count?

Tyler flew and Uni knew!

The goose drank wine
The monkey chewed tobacco
On the streetcar line

The line broke
The monkey got choked
And they all went to Heaven
In a little row boat

Clap, pat, clap, pat
Clap, pat, clap, slap

"We Will Rock You" by Queen has that stomp-stomp-clap thing going.

"Jack and Dianne" by John Cougar has clapping for the only drum sound
in the entire song, but i dont think thats 70s. Not sure.

"Jack and Diane" was from 1982.

Another song from the early 1980s was Eddie Rabbitt's "I Love a Rainy
Night," which employed a little gimmick with a clap and then a finger
snap.

Right you are, Moonpie. It was released on July 10, 1982 and went
straight to #1. But, 80's is game, too. :)

While all the other entries deserve some applause, The Angels "My
Boyfriend's Back" takes the all-time award. It has A.) Clapping, B.) a
spoken Intro, and C.) The 45 version was longer than the LP version!!!

So, fork over my reward!!! :-)
