I read somewhere that this song was just extended to fill out the
album because they didn't have another song ready at that time
and were under pressure to get the album out.

Haven't heard that one, but it's one of my favorite albums and "Do What
You Like" is one of the best cuts (IMHO).

I think it's Bakers best Drum solo (in 5/4 time, no less!). Maybe one
of the best rock drum solos ever. Not much repitition in it and it has
some fabulous sequences. If you listen hard to it you can hear the
skeleton of Joe Morello's drum solo from "Take Five" by the Dave
Brubeck Quartet.

A drummer usually is an essential ingredient in a band's dynamics. Drum
solo's however, well.... that's when the drummers in the audience keep
watching and all others go to the bar for a drink, innit? After that you go
for a pee during the bass solo unless you're a bass player and hopefully all
that noodling won't last too long.

Best drum solo I have seen: Grateful Dead, Gruga Halle, Essen, DE 1981.
While Kreutzmann and Hart did their thing The Flying Karamazov Brothers
performed a jaw-dropping juggling act.

Well, I'm not a drummer, but I've always loved that Baker solo. Like a
lot of others, too. I do suspect that few people like drum or bass
solos. I like both, when they're done well.

The point was that it was a terrific solo by Baker.

In other words, you were entertained during the solo. :-) I've seen
the Krarmazov Brothers. They are indeed jaw-dropping and very funny.

Given that the Deluxe version has two pretty full CDs (including only one
alternate version), that story sounds a little weak. One cut, "Sleeping In
The Ground" is certainly up to scratch even if some of the jams are more of
"Do What You Like".
