the stones were ripping off Willie Dixon tunes among other great blues
legends.

what a bunch of poseurs. especially Mick Jagger!

tell me since this was recorded by Muddy Waters(who I like) how high did his
version chart and how many top 40 hits did Muddy have?

The Stones were great and thanx to groups like them the mainstream
became cognizant of the pioneers. Martin was a cool dude in many ways
but he was jealous of all young, successful singers, e.g., Presley,
and he referred to the Beatles as "four unwashed fairies."

I was watching Dean and a young, successful, 17-year old Fabian
duetting last night on Youtube and, apart from trying to hog all the
ladies to himself, Dino was very nice to Fabe. Maybe it's because
they're paisans. (Sorry, I can't post the link as my work computer

According to "The Rat Pack" Dean and Sinatra hated Presley although
Frank went thru the nicey-nicey motions just to show young people that
he was hip. If Dino was cordial with Fabe, I suspect that he intuited
that the boy had no lasting power as a star.

Elvis was in the right place at the right time and how he became known as
"The King of Rock and Roll" when Chuck Berry did more for RNR in the first
decade is beyond me.

Elvis never wrote a song and only used the guitar as a prop!

Elvis, like the Rolling Stones ripped off American R&B performers.

both are highly OVERrated!

Elvis recorded more songs that I liked than any other performer. This
was due in part to having great writers and of course he made sooooo
many songs. Yeah, he's the King. Surprisingly, Fats is second on my
list in terms of sheer quantities of songs that I liked.

I liked all of Chuck's signature rock 'n' roll songs, never got tired
of his same, repetitive formula, but the problem is that he didn't
make enough of them, partly because that formula grew old with the
kiddos and of course his legal difficulties. Couldn't stand his
attempts at blues though, like "Wee Wee Hours."

Holly was another one. Loved practically all of his stuff until he
became jaded and wanted to go adult on us.

yes, died way too young. I saw a movie on him years ago.

Elvis Costello is rumoured to have been heavily influenced by him, but so
were The
Beatles themselves and probably many others.

The Stones are WAY overrated Jack.

I think they wrote a few good songs, but The Kinks were superior on many
levels!

they've influenced many bands from 1970s Punks to groups such as Blur and
Radiohead among others.

ROFLMAO!

Nothing gay about the Fab four!

now, the Stones were probably bisexual. especially Mick and Keith!

I seem to recall them kissing on an episode of SNL back in the late
1970s when I was in gradeschool.

no, but his facial expressions don't lie about what he thought of them at
the time.

http://youtu.be/qOr2a9oEzGQ

the rolling of the eyes is a dead giveaway. The Rolling Stones were
considered
a "joke" by any adults back then.

Ed Sullivan almost banned them after their first appearance on his show.

he later decided to have them on again because they had become huge at that
point

so it was more about $$$$$ than whether he admired them or not.

they were also willing to compromise their lyrics as in the case of
modifying

"let's spend the night together" to "Let's spend some time together"

unlike Morrison, who after he agreed to modify the lyrics didn't and the
Doors were
permantly banned at that point.

Morrison ended up dead a couple of years after that , overweight , drugged
out alchoholic.

Probably so

Incidentally, I was searching youtube for some Ed Sullivan appearances by
one
of my favorite British Invasion group, the Kinks and can't seem to locate
any with
Ed introducing them.
