What can I say; this is one fine song! Fine singing with nice
orchestration - professionally recorded!

Will get you flying like a butterfly, in Stereo!

Bob, come on down and take a bow, sir!
Nice work!

Yeah, we talked about this about a year ago. Some lambasted
me for saying it was a 1967 hit but that's what I remembered.

It's a personal all-time fave, one of those near perfect works
of art in terms of music and lyrics which place it among the
other few immortals.

You probably already know that the b-side was the actual a-side. Some
DJ in Florida (WQAM) flipped over "Chery'l's Goin' Home" and found
"Elusive Butterfly" on the back. It cought on like wildfire, charting in
January 1966, and the rest is history

"Cheryl's Goin' Home" did become a hit in Vancouver 4 months later.
Not by Lind but by The Cascades who did a marvelous job on it easily
surpassing Lind's effort, I'd say. Cascades thought Lind was a great
artist and added "Truly Julie's Blues", the b-side of Lind's follow-up
to "Elusive Butterfly, "Remember The Rain" - both sides of which charted
for Lind, #71 & #92. And it seems like another case of a b-side charting
higher than the a-side for Lind.

I also like "I Just Let It Take Me", Lind's next single, and "Dale Ann",
a beautiful ballad.

And, of course, the best version was by The Blues Project, on their

The DJ was probably Rick Shaw.
I lived in Miami Beach in the mid-1960s at the time, and his
station was the dominant one on rock radio.
WQAM (560AM) was also 'Beatle Headquarters' in 1964 on South
Florida radio stations.
Rick Shaw recently retired from WMXJ (102.7 FM, Miami-Ft.
Lauderdale) after 50 years in the biz.
Here is Rick Shaw on his tv show in 1966 "Saturday Hop"
[WLBW-10, Miami] introducing Neil Sedaka singing "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do"
(1962).

"Elusive Butterfly" hit #5 on Billboard's singles chart for 2
wks. (Mar. 12-25, 1966). AND HERE IT IS:

And again with 'butterfly' visuals:

Here is Bob himself performing the song live in 1992:

Bob Lind's website: http://www.boblind.com

Here is the great and beautiful Petula Clark doing her
(shortened) version of the song on "The Ed Sullivan Show." [year unknown]

Not to mention that from the looks of that web

fluttered from the pressed pages of Lind's lepidopterist's book,

True, true. Declaring Uni a "blithering idiot" doesn't pass for musical
knowledge. But it does speak volumes about your total lack of common
sense -- we call it intelligence around my neck of the woods. You're
right on the money with that one, Jimmy boy!!!! Don't be shy, come on
down for a drink some time and share some thoughts with us.
