Greetings,

In the latest issue of Perfect Sound Forever <http://www.perfectsoundforever.com>, you'll find (among other things):

VINYL ANACHRONIST by Marc Phillips
The Sgt. Pepper Chronicles
"By now you've probably heard there's a new 50th Anniversary Edition pressing of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and everyone says it's the bee's knees. I'm not talking about the dorks on the music forums, the obsessive collectors and the remastering groupies. I'm talking about people I know, people with similar relationships to the Fab Four. While I opted out of buying the mono remixes a few years ago, despite the raves, I was intrigued enough with this particular release to pull the trigger."

We're always looking for good writers and/or ideas so let us know if you have anything to share.

See you online,
Jason

What does having similar relationships to thee fab four mean, and what
does it have to do with Sgt Pepper
About as much as your lame suggestions to Dhani Harrison on how to
improve his music.

Here we go again, and you should be smart enough to realize that my
chances of even speaking to Dhani Harrison are so slim, and therefore
I never made any suggestions to Dhani Harrison. Geez.
Dhani reads this newsgroup looking for your opinions on his music. In
fact he was so upset that you were disappointed with his new album that
he was going to pull it from distribution and re-record the tracks based
on your brilliant suggestions.

I played half the CD, it almost sounds like a remaster. I think I need
to check the original. I think a bit of compression has been used to
get that 'hot' sound, but 16 bit audio is really too limited. They have
to reduce the data quality from the original master they created which
isn't a flaw free process. Then they probably finesse the sound to
adapt to that down sampling. At least there is flange on the vocal in
LSD which is a good thing.

People, these days, look at waveforms, that tells the story what occurred. Why Giles Martin was a poor choice to remix/remaster The Beatles!!

They should have released the original mono mix in an improved format
too, not just the plain old vanilla stupid CD again.
